My wacky world

Only in Phoenix

Only in Phoenix would you see a news report that is bitching about it being too hot in November.  It has been hitting 90 degrees here for about a month yes during October and November it is 90 degrees here.  I know the rest of the nation in jealous and I don’t blame them 90 degrees is perfect weather.  But here in Phoenix people are complaining that it is too hot.  I say shut the hell up, what do you people want for it to be 30 damn degrees and snow on the ground in the middle of a desert?  If you want snow move to freaking Canada I hear they have a lot of it up there.  I wouldn’t know for sure because I choose to live in a desert.  It was my choice just like it was the choice of the people who are complaining.  What part of it’s a desert didn’t you understand before packed up the Uhaul and moved all of your worldly belongings to Phoenix?

Don’t get me wrong in the middle of August when it has been over 110 degrees for 20 straight days I start complaining, but not in November when I can wear shorts to mow my green lawn.  One of these days I may choose to move to the mountains and shovel snow but not today when the weather just couldn’t get any more perfect.  In fact I think I will make myself a nice glass of iced tea and go sit on my back patio for a while.

It’s Cowboy Time

Yes it is Cowboy time again ladies and gentlemen, but first I have to talk about my man Adrian Peterson.  I know you have heard it before on this blog, but Adrian is without question the best rookie running back I have ever seen.  I am going one step further and will say that he is the best running back in the league this year.  There is not another man I would rather build my running game around that has stepped on the field this year.  By the numbers Adrian had 296 rushing yards, the highest single game rushing total ever in the NFL.  Really that’s enough right there, the best game ever.  Through 8 games Adrian has 1,036 rushing yards and has averaged 6.6 yards per carry.  Adrian also has 12 receptions on the year for 206 yards averaging 17.2 yards per reception.  But wait there’s more Adrian also runs back kicks to the tune of 324 yards for an average of 24.9 yards per return.  Add it all up and you get 1,566 all purpose yards through 8 games.  Truly amazing stats for a rookie.  I am not blind and know that eventually he will hit that rookie wall and his crappy team will catch up with him, but for now I just have to give the man the credit he deserves.  I wish you didn’t have to put on that ugly purple uniform every Sunday Adrian, but I guess that’s the price of going high in the draft.

Now for the Cowboys.  The 60 million dollar man comes through with another terrific performance.  Romo completed 20-25 for 324 yards with 3 touchdowns and had a rating of 141.7.  Like Adrian Peterson, Tony Romo is just one of those special players that don’t come along very often.  And like Adrian there is not another player I would want to have on my team more than Tony.  Blasphemy I am sure to everyone who loves Peyton and Tom, but hear me out.  Yes Peyton and Tom are proven winners, and would be an asset to any organization.  If I am starting a team tomorrow and my first pick is Adrian then Peyton and Tom are already gone when it comes back to me, so I choose a guy who just loves to play the game.  I would stick by Tony through a game like he had in Buffalo just like Jerry Jones did when he gave him the big contract, because we both see a guy who loves to play and will do everything he can to win a game.  Take a look around the rest of the league and show me a better quarterback playing right now.  What Tony does for the Cowboys isn’t being done anywhere else in the league anywhere.

Emmett Smith for some really stupid reason has not been considered the best running back of all time because of the offensive line he had in front of him.  So I have to inject that Tony is better than Tom or Peyton because of the mass of talent that those two have around them.  Tony does more with less than either of those two guys.  Sure T.O. is a talent but Marvin Harrison and Randy Moss are the premier receivers in the league.  Randy Moss may just be the most talented receiver ever, but he is a stupid jackass who has refused to live up to his potential, and a lot like T.O. might just have finally matured.  Maybe that is not enough to convince you but it is enough to convince me and having Tony around makes me proud to be a Cowboy fan again.

To the Denver Bronco’s fans, I sincerely hope for your sake that Jay Cutler is out for the rest of the season, it will be a blessing to for you.  I know how passionate the Bronco’s fans are so I really do wish the fans well, but good grief Jay Cutler couldn’t care less as you can tell by the look on his face every time he takes the field so why would you care about having him on your team?  Almost makes you wish Jake Plummer were still a Bronco.  Well maybe things aren’t quite that bad.

Metro Station and Kelsey

My daughter asked me to listen to this really great song called Kelsey by some new myspace.com band Metro Station. Well I am here to give an honest opinion of this new song she loves so much, and I have to say that after listening to it I wanted to burn my ears off with a torch. Wow this is what music has come to in 2007. It will really make you long for the good ol’ days of rock and roll, when musicians had talent and a sense of rhythm. I guess the story goes something like this.

The Internet takes over the recording industry by making every song ever made freely available to anyone who wants to become a pirate. The music industry can’t afford to sign new upcoming bands because of fear about the loss of their mega billion dollar industry. Side Note (it is hard to believe these people can’t come up with a business model that works in today’s society). So bands like Metro Station are signed by new companies that by the sound of the recording can only afford to record in Joey’s basement. You and I will now get stuck listening to crap like this song for the rest of our lives because real musicians will have to get real jobs so they can afford to live.

If the song below teaches us anything it should be that we should always always pay for the music we love. Or we will pay the price with having to listen to bands like Metro Station in the future. Go ahead give it a listen but only if you are not pregnant have a weak immune system or are otherwise not near a trash can that you will most likely lose your lunch into. Go ahead I dare you.

Too Serious

Sometimes taking yourself to seriously can lead to more problems than you already have.  One of the problems I have is taking myself too serious.  I get overly concerned over the smallest details and forget to just live life for the sake of living.  I get mad at the people I love the most for no real reason at all.  I need to learn to just let thing be and see circumstances for what they really are which is just a test of my character.  Don’t get me wrong this is something I have worked on for a very long time; I am just writing this to remind myself that I need to do better every day.  I have to let things go and accept people for who they are.  That is usually easier said than done, but if I want to have the best life I can have then I need to remember it all the time.  I have read and practiced a lot of different self help seminars, books, and cd’s which I am sure some people think is a load of crap.  I get a little something from each one that helps me be not only a better person to the people around me, but helps me live a happier life by accepting the things that I cannot change.

Some people find the guidance in their lives through religion or some other means like meditation or yoga.  But I have always had a hard time accepting any form of organized religion and I do better by focusing just simply making an effort to be better.  I hope one day soon I will learn to not take things too seriously, but unfortunately that day is not today.  I will just work harder to get past the obstacles in my life and make tomorrow a better day for all of the people I love.  I am one of the lucky few who have a great support team in my incredible family.  If I were half as good a person as my wife is then I would be great.  I can’t tell you how lucky I am to have her, she is without question one of the finest people ever put on earth.  It doesn’t hurt that she has great boobs also, but that is a different story.
